Our Beginning
Leonhardt Vineyards was founded in 1999
Leonhardt Vineyards was founded in 1999 coinciding with purchase of a 15 acre property at 8500 Dry Creek Road in Dry Creek Valley Sonoma County just outside the towns of Healdsburg and Geyserville, California.
This was near the historic site of one of the first vineyards in all of Sonoma County in the late 1800’s. The Leonhardt family cleared the land, put up fences and vineyard posts and planted zinfandel and petite syrah vines acquired from St. Peter’s Church property in Sonoma County.
They preserved 90% of the trees on the property including some majestic redwoods with a mind on being a good custodian of the land. They built a fire protection gravel barrier around the property to help protect the vines and trees.

Our Commitment to Sonoma County
The Leonhardt family was brought to Sonoma County when Howard Leonhardt sold his stent graft and percutaneous heart valve inventions to Medtronic AVE based in Santa Rosa. This stent graft invention has helped treat more than 600,000 people with aortic aneurysms and remains amongst the leading systems in the world for this purpose.
Proceeds from Leonhardt Vineyards wine sales are re-invested in part into new research intended to save and improve more lives. Leonhardt has over 500 patent claims for devices and biologics for organ regeneration and repair. It’s Second Heart Assist aortic stent based circulatory assist pump is a breakthrough invention for helping patients suffering of heart and kidney failure currently in clinical trials.
Leonhardt led a team that completed the first non-surgical repair of a human heart with muscle stem cells and this research continues today. The Leonhardts created and majority owned startup Lionheart Health, Inc. is an official entrant in the $101 million Xprize competition for Healthspan extension with its patented klotho based technology platform. In December 2023 Lionheart Health, Inc. won the coveted award from Abbvie Allergan Aesthetics for innovations by a startup in medical aesthetics. Our Family
A Generational Family Business
Ryan Leonhardt, the eldest son of founder Howard Leonhardt, attended and graduated from college programs and courses at Santa Rosa Jr. College and Sonoma University for viticulture, wine business management and wine making and has studied under a number of top wine making and vineyard management masters in Sonoma County including the late Ulises Valdez. Ryan has helped run vineyard operations at Leonhardt Vineyards LLC and lives full time nearby in Santa Rosa.
The Leonhardt family has created bridges of partnerships in Sonoma County which include Sunce Family Winery in Santa Rosa, Valdez Family Winery in Cloverdale, the Florence Family as well as Kerry Damsky and Michael Dashe both master wine makers.
